Isaiah is the longest and often considered most important of the prophetic books. Isaiah covers a long period of Israel's history (before, during, and after the exile) and offers the full range of God's prophetic message. The first part of the book delivers judgment and warning messages. Isaiah condemns false worship, complacency, and the failure to act on behalf of the poor. The second part of the book brings messages of hope and comfort to the exiles in Babylonian captivity. The third part of the book contains both warnings and promises for the community after the return to Jerusalem following the fall of Babylon.
